Four major highways concluded before year end
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- The Minister of Tourism on Wednesday announced the conclusion of the La Romana-San Pedro motorway, the and the Punta Cana, San Pedro and La Romana boulevards before year end, as part of the government’s support of the tourism sector’s strategies.
Francisco Javier Garcia said there’ll be more spending to promote the country abroad this year and to increase the offer of Dominican hotels, as well as quality and safe services for visitors.
“In addition to the Coral highway, the other basic infrastructure developments are the La Romana-San Pedro highway, the San Pedro boulevard to four lanes, the bypass at the town of La Romana and the Punta Cana boulevard. Right now all those works are being built with intensity and we won’t have to wait till next year to open them,” the official said.
In that regard, National Hotels and Tourism Association president Luis Emilio Rodriguez said he’s confident the number of visitors to the country will increase next high season, as the result of the nearly 115 international tour operators attending the fair.
“This closes the negotiations for the next season. I’ve participated in international tourism fairs many times where negotiations start, but we tend to close here for next winter. That’s why a large percentage of the business is conducted in this show,” Rodriguez said.
Garcia and Rodriguez spoke at the opening ceremony of the 14th Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) which will conclude tomorrow at Barceló Bavaro Beach, where tour operators negotiate bookings with hoteliers.
