Forest fires affect Sierra de Bahoruco
Santo Domingo.- A fire in the Bahoruco pine forests in the south west of the Dominican Republic yesterday affected the Aceitillar area, near the Pelempito canyon.
Pedernales forest brigades arrived on the scene to fight the fire. This is the second fire to affect the area this year that has been tackled by local teams, led by director Roberto Lebrón.
The fires are thought to be caused by unidentified people who hunt wild animals and search for honey, as well as by fires used for burning vegetation which spread to the pine forests.
