Fodor’s Guide recommends Samaná as a 2013 tourism destination
The Samaná Peninsula, on the country’s northeast region, has been included in the list of 25 “must destinations” to visit in 2013.
The list was put together by Fodor’s Travel Guide. The publication describes the Samaná peninsula as a destination rich in pristine beaches, and offering the ideal destination for nature lovers.
The publication also says that visitors to the town of “Las Terrenas,” in Samaná, will be surprised by the friendly attitude of the local residents.
Approximately 700 journalists that cover the tourism industry compiled the list. Among the most recommended activities: a tour of the “Los Haitises” National Park, where visitors will be able to walk into ancient caves decorated with drawings made by the Tainos, the original inhabitants of the island.
The region’s flora and fauna, the migration of humpback whales during the months of January-March, are also highly recommended.
The publication also includes a selection of the best hotels in the area, among them: The Peninsula House, in the town of “Las Terrenas,” The Bannister Hotel, situated right in the city of Samaná and “Villa Serena” in the “Las Galeras” beach.
The addition of the Samaná Peninsula in this popular tourism guide places the Dominican Republic alongside such cosmopolitan cities as New Orleans, Gettysburg, Myanmar, Amsterdam, New York, Mexico City and Marseille.
