Extension of 2nd subway line full steam ahead
Santo Domingo.- The 2nd Metro Line’s (subway) extension will create more than 2,000 direct jobs; more than 7,000 people currently work in its construction and more than 1,000 companies coordinate their efforts to finish within three years.
Transport Reform Office (OPRET) deputy director Leonel Carrasco on Tuesday called the metro a “fast, affordable, safe and non-polluting” urban transport system, whose 21st station is already under construction at the corner of San Vicente de Paul and Venezuela avenues, Santo Domingo East.
“In two years we plan to finish the bridge over the Ozama River and try to reach the station at Mella Highway,” he said, adding that it will have 11 stations 700 to 800 meters apart, until reaching the town of San Luis, 12 kilometers east of the Ozama river.
