EU delegation visits organic banana plantations
Santo Domingo.– Representatives of the European Union and the Dominican Ministry of Agriculture visited a couple of ecological banana plantations in the Dominican Northwest in order to observe the process of producing this export fruit.
As part of the actions prior to the start of the Banana Accompanying Plan, which will fund the Dominican sector with nearly 900 million pesos, the mission went to the premises of the Plantaciones del Norte Farm and to another farm belonging to the Banana Growers Association of the Northwest (Banelino).
The European Union commission saw first hand the good labor practices that are implemented in both farms and also noted that there was no child labor employed in the banana plantations and that the human resources management standards required by European countries are being respected in the country.
