Environment Ministry campaign: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry on Friday will launch Recycling Week to raise awareness on the importance of separating solid household waste, for people in every town, government agency and NGO learn how to manage and make a difference, focusing on the 3′Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
The event slated for Palacio del Cine at Agora Mall features several activities, such as visits to homes in municipalities across the country, will conclude Friday May 24.
Environment Ministry project manager Domingo Contreras stressed the importance of reusing solid waste of which 80% currently reaches landfills, but can be reused with good management.
“There are hundreds of companies involved in different types recycling in the Dominican Republic that recover and exploit organic as well as solid waste, such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, cardboard and rubber, and hundreds of recyclers or divers working in the collection centers nationally,” Contreras said.
Through the house to house campaign, people will be encouraged to treat solid waste, converting problems into pesos, to shop responsibly and environment-friendly and separate the waste produced at home.
