Drought is “worse this year”
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Agriculture says that the impact of this year’s drought is 45% worse than the same period last year.
A preventive program has been under way for the last five months in the northeastern border provinces to mitigate the effects of the drought in the area.
Engineer Ramón Danilo Pérez, agricultural director for the Mao region, said that the plan consisted of distributing bales of hay and other livestock feed, the construction of 48 watering holes and 173 tube wells, funded by the authorities. They have also been providing technical and logistical support to livestock and crop farmers.
