DR has become the most popular destination for Germans

During the 2012-2013 winter travel season, the Dominican Republic is expected to remain the most important Caribbean destination for German airlines.

Air Berlin currently has nine scheduled weekly flights; Condor, eleven; Edelweiss, from Zurich, has one weekly flight while Arkefly, has two.

Condor recently announced an increase in the number of direct flights to the Dominican Republic for next summer.

During the upcoming winter season there will be 20 regularly scheduled flights bringing to the Dominican Republic tourists from Germany.

Flights are scheduled to land in the country’s most important tourism region: Puerto Plata (north coast); Punta Cana (eastern region); and Santo Domingo, the country’s capital city.

The Condor ( and Air Berlin ( websites offer German tourists updated information on flights and train connections to Germany’s most important airports.

Air Berlin currently has nine scheduled flights every week to the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata, on the country’s north coast, has flights coming from airports in the Germany cities of Munich and Dusseldorf.

Three weekly flights from Dusseldorf also come in to Punta Cana’s international airport, on the country’s eastern region.

Also, Air Berlin has announced three additional flights from Munich and Berlin.

The flights leave Germany in the early morning hours and arrive in the Dominican Republic in the afternoon.

Condor, a member of the Deutsche Lufthansa group, has 11 scheduled flights to the Dominican Republic.

On Saturdays and Sundays flights from Frankfurt come in to Puerto Plata; Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays to Santo Domingo, from Frankfurt; five flights from Frankfurt to Punta Cana, on the country’s eastern region, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

During the winter season, Condor Airlines has flights leaving every Tuesday from Vienna, the Austrian capital, directly into Punta Cana.

The charter company Zurich Edelweiss Air ( has direct flights on Thursday between Zurich and Punta Cana.

TUI tour operators ( operate one charter flight per week through Arkefly Airlines ( from Basel, Switzerland to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata.

Condor Airlines announced that for the upcoming summer season it will expand flights to Punta Cana.

In 2011, a total of 182,529 Germans, 25,411 Swiss and 9,120 Austrian spent their vacations in the Dominican Republic.

In 2012, the total number of travelers from January to September was: Germany (128,793); Switzerland (18,783) and Austria (6,039).
