Dominicans again top foreign players in Major Leagues
Santo Domingo.- Of a total of 241 players born outside the United States were on the rosters of the 25 Major League Baseball teams for Opening Day 2013, MLB announced Monday. The non U.S. players total 28.2% percent, the fourth largest in history.
There are 15 countries represented among players born outside the United States, where Dominican Republic again leads the group with 89, that country’s fourth biggest entourage for Opening Day, with 99 in 2007, 91 in 2005 and 95 in 2012.
Venezuela was second with 63, Canada is third with 17, followed by Mexico (14), Puerto Rico (13), Japan (11), Colombia (4) Panama (4), Curacao (3), Australia (2), Nicaragua (2), South Korea (2), Netherlands (1) Taiwan (1).
