Dominican President upbeat on deal with Barrick Gold
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday said he expects to strike a deal through the meetings held with Barrick Gold Corp. executives who arrived in the country Monday.
He said the people must understand that they are negotiations which start from scratch and what’s important is to reach a midway point to sign the agreement.
Medina, speaking at a funeral service on Lincoln Av., said he isn’t taking part in the meetings being held swith Barrick’s officers. “It’s a negotiation and negotiations start with an agreed point and reach a middle point. Negotiations are taking place and we hope to reach an agreement today. There’s a committee that is negotiating and is meeting since yesterday.”
Barrick executives will meet with the ministers of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, Economy, Temistocles Montas, Industry and Commerce, José del Castillo and Finance, Simon Lizardo, among others.
