Dominican-Haiti border back to normal despite lockout of workers

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- The Dominican-Haiti border was back to normal Thursday, despite that the authorities clarified that there was no agreement reached with the priest Regino Martínez, who heads a protest with Haitian immigrants at town of Ouanaminthe.

Immigration director Jose R. Taveras said only those workers with visas will be allowed to enter Dominican Republic.

Around noon yesterday a bilateral commission received from Martinez the list of 1,080 Haitians who seek legal entry into Dominican territory, after their protest completely shuttered trade at the northernmost Dominican-Haiti border crossing.

The commission included Dominican consul in Ouanaminthe, Eunice Jimeno, Dajabon province governor Fiordaliza Ceballos, Border Security commander Santo Domingo Guerrero, and the Haitian Consul in Dajabón, Teresa Eosha.
