Dominican government workers US$191.0M holiday bonus in 3 weeks
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina made a surprise visit to the Finance Ministry on Monday and took part at the meeting to announce that more than RD$8.0 billion (US$191.0 million) will be disbursed to pay the Christmas bonus, known as the 13th salary to around 600,000 government workers.
After the meeting Finance minister Simon Lizardo said “as each year,” the 13th salary, also called “el doble,” will be paid in the first week of December, and is expected to boost the economy.
He said the Finance Ministry’s meeting which lasted more than one hour, in which Medina participated, is held periodically to weigh revenues and spending.
