Dominican capital gets major overpasses on revenue windfall
Santo Domingo.- Higher-than-expected revenue in the first half this year have eased the government’s restriction on spending after the austerity measures announced after president Danilo Medina took office in August, and from the tax packaged approved late last year,
The extra money is evidenced in the announced construction of underpasses at the intersections of 27 de Febrero with La Privada, Caonabo, Lupeon and Isabel Aguiar avenues, in the National District to as part of the ambitious road works project, called the Duarte Corridor, which Medina had discarded for this year citing sagging revenue.
The Public Works Ministry said Brazilian contractor Odebrecht and local partner Acero Estrella will begin construction of the overpass at La Privada 8am Saturday, and asked motorist to be alert to the detours.
Earlier this week Public Works also announced the start of construction of overpasses and tunnels in Santo Domingo East, and North.
