Dominican capital crackdown, hundreds arrested,vehicles, guns seized
Santo Domingo.- The joint military-National Police operation conducted Wednesday night in 36 districts of the capital resulted in the arrest of 1,279 people, vehicles and the confiscation of weapons, as part of the government’s effort to halt street crimes.
Police spokesman Jacobo Mateo said only 206 of those arrested were charged, 629 vehicles were checked, while 192 of the 492 motorcycles stopped were confiscated. Also seized were 26 knives and three firearms.
He said the checkpoints are being conducted continuously in neighborhoods and streets, to reduce crimes, drug trafficking and guarantee public safety.
