Development of walls out of recycling materials in Puerto Plata
PUERTO PLATA. – As an initiative of the MIF (Management Cultural Resource based tourism), which runs through the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, the Czech artist Merette began making the first of several walls to be made in recyclables basis to complement the walking routes that aims to develop the project in the historic center of the city. The concept is to use plastic containers, glass bottles, bottle caps, cups, cans, pieces of wood, metals, including waste, to transmit characteristic aspects of the history, culture and folklore of the Puerto Plata people, making passage through the streets of town.
The first, titled “Time of Taimáscaros” is a representation of one of the most colorful festivals of popular tradition, the carnival. This mural is in the process of development, and it is being created at Padre Castellanos, General Gregorio Luperon Avenue corner (seawall). The coordinator of the project “Tourism Management based on Cultural Resources”, Karina Abbott, urged the community to welcome this initiative and keep them, since they add to the preservation of local identity.
