Customs vows strict inspections as Barrick Gold ships doré

Santo Domingo. – Barrick Gold Corp’s website in Toronto on Tuesday confirmed the shipment of doré (gold, silver) retained by Dominican authorities since last week, after the Customs Agency found errors in the export procedure. It said the cargo was sent Monday night.

“Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE: ABX, TSX: ABX) (Barrick or the “Company”) confirms that a shipment of gold from the Pueblo Viejo mine, Which had been Detained by Customs Authorities in the Dominican Republic on March 14, 2013, has been released and shipped,” the miner said.

Yesterday Customs said Barrick Gold will have to pay a US$23.2 million (RD$952 million) fine for a shipment doré which it had retaince since Wednesday of last week.

Customs director Fernando Fernandez announced a detailed review of l9 other shipments by the Canadian company, through the Punta Caucedo air freight terminal.
