Consumer protection head blasts discrimination in hotel sector
Santo Domingo. – The head of the government consumer protection agency ProConsumidor, Altagracia Paulino, has accused the hotel sector of selling vacation packages and failing to fulfill them.
ProConsumidor claims that local tourists suffer discrimination in the services that they receive at the country’s hotels and called on agencies and service providers to treat Dominican holidaymakers in the same way as they treat foreign tourists.
“Don’t let yourself be discriminated against, the conditions they offer and the quality that they provide should be the same as for the foreigners,” says ProConsumidor in a campaign launched to advise users to demand their rights and insist that hotels provide quality services without any exclusion.
“It is very unpleasant when they sell you a package and then tell you it wasn’t that way. In over three years that we have been here, we have noted that this occurs and this should not happen to Dominicans when we go to a beach and pay for the service… the difference could be about color, but we are human beings with rights and obligations.” She said they had also received complaints of this kind from foreign tourists.
