Constructions ravage Dominican Republic’s world-class soil
Moca, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Wednesday headed Farmer’s Day activities in Moca, in north-central Espaillat province, where community and farming leaders asked him to enact stricter zoning laws to halt constructions over the soil, rated among the world’s most fertile.
Medina recognized several agro professionals headed by Dario Tio, who’s been full-time rice-grower since 1960, and a pioneer in promoting farm organization.
During the event, community and farm sector leaders voiced concern over the many housing and commercial projects they affirm is jeopardizing agriculture, including farming of cassava (yuca), considered among the word’s finest tuber.
