Company to build 2, 240MW coal-fired plants
Santo Domingo.- The power company EGE Haina will build two coal-fired plants with a total of 240 megawatts in the town of Bajos de Haina (south), whose first phase will come online between 2016 and 2017, diarioibre.com reports.
Production of the new plants, to be built at a cost of around US$624 million, is expected to push the spot market’s energy prices downward as much as three cents the dollar.
The site to build the new plants, aimed at replacing the site’s old units, was chosen because of the infrastructure already present at the facilities, including the adjacent industrial zone, a port and the current power grid.
