Cibao Airport (Santiago) to cut ribbon on the country’s biggest solar panel array

Santiago.- Cibao International Airport is set to open a solar panel array in the next few days, reportedly the biggest renewable energy project for internal consumption ever built in the Dominican Republic. reports that the array will supply 45 percent of the terminal’s electricity consumption, and was made possible by Law 57-07 on renewable energy incentives, for which it obtained the National Energy Commission’s full support.

It said the system was designed to meet the need for more energy security in airport operations, in addition to savings, clean energy and environmental conservation. “The project consists of a photovoltaic solar plant with an installed capacity of 1.5 megawatts, or 1,500 kilos. It’s comprised of around 5,880, 255 watt solar panels and consists of three inverters of 500 kilos each.”

Airport technicians revealed that the international supplier started the tests at the end of April, “whose results, both May and June, were in accordance with what had been contracted.”
