Buyers flock to new Santo Domingo farmers market
Santo Domingo.- Attractive offers are drawing customers to the recently opened Santo Domingo Wholesalers Market (Merca-Santo Domingo), where sellers hawk quality products at the cheapest possible prices.
Consumers say they always save a few pesos, which in part explains the market’s success.
The market lets regular buyers access every weekend, but it steadily heads to full capacity. Products are sold at prices as much as 50% lower compared with other farmers markets.
Merca director Eusebio Guzmán, quoted by elcaribe.com.do, said they’re glad with the positive results of the “trial sales” thus far while they prep for full blown operations. “And we expect even more.”
Guzman showed figures for the weekend of December 6 to 8, when vendors and agribusinesses sold more than RD$35.0 million in nearly 100 products.
