Bill would merge 14 transport-related agencies into one ministry
Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Monday received a proposal to merge 14 transport-related agencies into a single ministry, said the bill’s author deputy Tobias Crespo.
If approved the Mobility, Land Transport, Traffic and Roadway Safety bill would establishing all routes, set fares and regulate all matters of land transport.
Crespo said the duplicated agencies would be eliminated or merged into the ministry, noting that the country’s transportation law, approved 45 years ago is obsolete.
Chamber of Deputies Public Works Commission president Hugo Fortuna said the law “isn’t intended to displace anyone, but to serve as a regulatory agency.”
He said several lawmakers will head public hearings at the International Book Fair6pm Wednesday, to discuss the transport sector, and invites interested parties to submit proposals and take part in the activity.
