Beware! Number plates thieves operate in Sosua
One of our readers sent us this letter to warn other residents about a potential violation act that can happen to them as well.
“The other day my number plate of my car had sneakily been taken off in the parking lot near Sosua, while I was visiting my hairdresser. I straight away reported it to the Police. After 8 days working daily on it to get a signed and certificated “Denuncia” in the Police-Station of Sosua, it didn’t bring any success. Every day I kept getting a new excuse why there was no an authorized officer to sign the paper at that moment. So enough was enough! Last Friday then I went to the Fiscal and got the paper the same day.
It was very important to act fast as the robbers could abuse my number plate and I could be accused of a criminal act if I had no paper to prove the theft.
Next step is to place a publication / notification about your stolen number plate in a local newspaper (in 3 issues), and after that to go to Santiago to the Central office of Registration for a complete new “Matricula” with a new number so they can take the old number out of circulation. Lots of hassle because of some nasty abusive characters, but if it happens you will need to do this for your piece of mind. And hopefully it will keep you out of trouble in the future.” – Imme R.
