Beltway completes road link in Dominican Republic’s east region
The 4-lane road of nearly 13 kilometers, which can handle more than 2,000 vehicles per day, features three traffic exchanges and five bridges.
Speaking in the ceremony, National Hotels and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) president Luis Emilio Rodríguez called the work a milestone, with a before and after that will develop not only tourism, but also competitiveness. “The new roads change the region’s profile and strengthen local and foreign investment, so this work, Mr. President, is a recognition to transport, industry, commerce and agriculture.”
“This grand road project, the Tourism Corridor of the East provides access to airports, export free zones, and improves safety and vigilance,” Rodriguez said.
La Romana province governor Juan José Santana and mayor Maritza Suero agreed that the work will benefit their communities.
The Beltway completes the highway route from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana, and includes the Eastern Motorway and the Coral Highway.
