ASHORESOCA is working on turning Sosua and Cabarete into a sustainable tourist destination

PUERTO PLATA. – The president of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Sosua and Cabarete (ASHORESOCA) Thomas Callender, said that in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism, el Clúster Turístico and trade associations in these localities are working to make Cabarete and Sosua sustainable tourist destination.

Callerder revealed that the Ministry of Tourism is still pondering the natural potential of Sosua and Cabarete, as a destination that has it all, and Puerto Plata is being taken into account as settings for shooting and footage of films. The president made his weights ASHORESOCA to participate in the meeting with the press which released the details for the third sample Environmental Film Festival to be held from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 September in Sosua and Puerto Plata. Yomas Callender thanked la Funglode y al Clúster Turístico and Sosua Bay Grand Casino where there will be the stage for the opening of the III Dominican Republic Environmental Film shows, with the presentation of the award-winning documentary Minds In The Water, in which the Odyssey of a professional surfer Dave Rastovich and his friends being depicted in their efforts to protect dolphins, whales and the oceans they all share.

Through Dave’s journey, which is a five-year adventure around the world, from Australia to the Galapagos, Tonga, California, Alaska and Japan, this surfer aims to awaken the interest of the community to help protect the oceans and its inhabitants. Also revealed the themes of the third film shows are Oceans Environmental, Biodiversity, Green Economy, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change, as the Environment and Tourism are linked and the cinema is a good vehicle to promote health tourism.
