Apolo Taxi protest
The police, armed with shotguns, arrived at the headquarters of Apolo Taxi on 27 February Avenue in Santo Domingo yesterday, Monday 16 December, due to protests being carried out by hundreds of taxi drivers who have been told to pay an additional RD$200 a week to use the franchise taking the fee to RD$1,000 a week.
Angel Estrella, president of the Santo Domingo Taxi Drivers Association, described the increase in the weekly fee as abusive, saying that the customers could not afford higher fares to cover the increase.
Journalists from El Nacional newspaper tried to talk to the management of Apolo Taxis but no one responded to their call.
