All Dominicans have the right to a piece of tourism pie
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Hotels and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) on Monday hailed president Danilo Medina’s announced tax breaks for tourism projects, but noted that the benefits should be for the entire country, not just to some areas.
“The policy of excluding some regions must cease because it hasn’t been positive, and tourism development incentives should be applied throughout the country. What the law must perfect is define which tourism development projects deserve these benefits,” it said in a statement.
“All of the country’s regions have tourist vocation and by benefiting all provinces, we get a stronger, diverse and specialized tourism product,” ASONAHORES says.
“The Executive Branch’s first tax break law for tourism development was by decree and all of them applied stimuli equally, but now that the country has experience and can develop diverse tourism products in the entire territory, incentives should be applicable to all without exception, from an accurate description of what is a tourism initiative to eliminate discretion in its enactment.”
