Agro paces Dominican Republic 3Q growth of 5.5%
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s economy grew 5.5% in the third quarter, a significant recovery compared with the second quarter’s 2.8%, for which central banker Héctor Valdez Albizu predicts a 3% growth in the end of the year and inflation of 5%
He said the recovery was paced by key sectors such as agriculture which grew 8.3%, and 8.6% in others such as hotels, bars and restaurants and others which posted double-digit growth.
“This recovery occurs after the economy grew just 0.3 percent in March, for a cumulative growth of 1.6% in the first half of the year” Valdez said in a ceremony to mark the Central Bank’s 60th anniversary.
The official said January to September growth was 2.9%, also spurred by agro, mining, hotels and bars and restaurant.
