Again humpback whales spotted near Puerto Plata
Last week, off the coast of Puerto Plata some humpback whales have been spotted. People walking the Malecón (seafront promenade) from the port city saw at the end of the afternoon the humpbacks swim back and forth for several hours and saw the powerful tail several times above the water, then they disappeared in the direction of Sosúa. It’s mating season for humpback whales. The humpback whales come in this period from the North Atlantic Ocean to the shores of the Dominican Republic to mate and give birth to their young. But where they can be seen in large numbers, is in the National Park ‘Los Haitises’ at the peninsula of Samaná.
From Sosúa you can make a day trip with a travel agent to the whales of Samaná. It’s really a fantastic experience.
