AES Dominicana: Energy distributor’s problems are main headache
Santo Domingo.- AES Dominicana president Marco De la Rosa on Sunday waned that the country’s electricity sector has structural problems, especially in the area of distribution, which in his view must be solved to improve its service to customers.
He said the private sector must continue to invest in energy sources such as coal and natural gas, so the power companies can keep buying them at competitive prices.
“The current subsidies aim to solve the power sector’s structural problems. There must be investments in coal and natural gas, but the distributor’s structural problems must be corrected,” De la Rosa said in the Color Vision TV program “Dirigentes.”
He said the electricity sector’s 2013 budget will not be enough to cover expenses, and in his view it will be forced to use the supplementary budget.
He reiterated the need to forge an energy pact, so that all stakeholders work together for a service of quality. “We at AES Dominicana are committed with the energy pact, and continue to bring solutions to the electrical sector through sources of energy at competitive prices.”
