A young woman faked her own kidnapping to extort money from her New York husband
PUERTO PLATA – Officers of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the National Police ( DICRIM ) , arrested in the early hours of Monday morning a woman of 37 years old, who faked a kidnapping to force her husband living in New York to pay a large sum of money for her ” rescue.”
The arrested lady was identified as Rosemary Jasmine Bruno de la Cruz , who lives in a house located in Puerto Plata. According to the information provided by the police, her husband, a resident of New York, had to pay some alleged kidnappers the sum of two hundred thousand pesos. The woman will be forwarded to the courts where she will face criminal charges.
This is the 2nd case of staged kidnapping in Puerto Plata, that has been recorded in less than a week in the Cibao region. Last Tuesday in the La Mina de Santiago, another woman of just 21 years old was arrested, she planned to extort 300 thousand pesos from her boyfriend, U.S. citizen, to pay the captors.
