911 System ready for December
PLD legislator Elpidio Baez, who chairs the Chamber of Deputies interior and police commission, has announced that the 911 system is scheduled to start in December 2013, as reported in Hoy. He said that a US$50 million fund has been created for the system that will have its own vehicles, ambulances and support staff to provide an efficient service to citizens. He said, as reported on the El Dia TV program on Channel 11, that doctors, police, firefighters and prosecutors will be assigned to the Operations Center. The plan is for the service to provide the most efficient and fastest response possible to emergency cases.
He said the system would start in Greater Santo Domingo and would gradually be extended to Santiago, La Altagracia and San Cristobal provinces.
Donations to the program have been received from the United States, Taiwan and South Korea.
