200 Brits join sit-in hotel
FURIOUS Brits staged a sit-in at a Caribbean hotel after complaining about “unbelievable” conditions.
The protest was led by angry Tony Walton who claimed badly-behaved locals used the pool and beach as a toilet.
The sales manager from Doncaster, south Yorks, claimed there was “almost a mutiny” at the Riu Merengue hotel in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
He said 200 Brit visitors were furious over problems with cockroaches and rats, food running out and prostitutes working in the local bars.
Mr Walton, 48, added: “There are a lot of local people staying because they get given a cheap package. Most of them are lovely, but some of them don’t know how to behave.”
He, wife Cheryl, 45, their two children and four other relatives spent £10,000 on the two-week break.
Tony added: “There was one day when the pool was cordoned off because someone took a sh*t in it. The value I’d put on this hotel now is less than £100.”
Thomson First Choice said it was investigating his complaint and it had moved some holidaymakers “as a gesture of goodwill”.
