11th Annual “Master of the Ocean” sports competition to be held in Cabarete, Feb 26 – March 03

The eleventh annual “Master of the Ocean” sports competition, where contestants from all over the world participate in various water sports competition, will be held in Cabarete, the beachside community situated in the country’s north coast. Today, this once sleepy fishing village has become the Caribbean’s most important destination for watersports. For six days, the region’s excellent weather and the permanent waves that characterize the country’s north coast will be the main attraction that will bring in athletes from all over the world in order to participate in various activities such as surf, windsurf, and kite surf and sub-surf.

A panel of experts will evaluate and choose this year’s winners. The competition’s main categories are: “Master of the Ocean” (individual and team), and “Master of the Ocean Women.” Originally the competition was known as the “Iron Man of Water Sport,” by German Marcus Brown. The idea was to prepare and support Dominican athletes to participate in international competitions. Cabarete is a former fishing community that has become an attractive tourist center. Today, it is considered to be one of the Caribbean’s most important wind water sports destinations. Local and international competitions are continuously held in Cabarete, especially in the surfing, windsurfing, and kite surfing and subsurf categories.
