Utility to install 140,000 wireless electricity meters in 2013
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) on Tuesday announced it will install 140,000 remote –controlled meters next year, as part of a program to reduce losses and increase generation.
CDEEE CEO Ruben Jimenez Bichara said the remote controlled meters are key for the company’s programming, and of its three electricity distributors (Edes), which currently have 111,000 customers with those meters and the goal is to add 140,000 next year, for an 126% increase.
He said by 2014 the goal is to install 150, 000 more remote controlled meters, to reach around 450,000 customers, or around 80% of the energy billed.
