US$175M yearend government pay hits the street, Police boost patrols
SANTO DOMINGO.- As announced the government began to pay the “13” salary of its workers on Thursday, after an allocation of more than RD$7.0 billion (US$175 million).
Presidency Administrative minister José Ramón Peralta aid president Danilo Medina issued instructions to pay in all government agencies, so they can “spend a happy Christmas with their families.”
The disbursement of the funds is expected to prod the national economy.
To prevent holdups, the National Police yesterday announced heightened street patrols nationwide, including dozens of additional agents in cars and motorcycles.
The private sector is also expected to start paying the ”double salary” to its employees, starting early next week.
SDE City pays first
Santo Domingo East mayor Juan de los Santos began paying the 13th salary to its employees, and for the first time without taking out a loan, and also the first of the country’s 155 city councils to disburse “the double.”
