Tropical storm Olga hit Dominican Republic

Tropical storm Olga has caused floods and landslides in the Caribbean since hitting the region on Tuesday, 10 days after the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season. The Dominican Republic was hardest hit,  with 11 people killed and thousands forced to flee their homes.

The Dominican  town of Santiago de los Caballeros was evacuated as waters of the Yaque River rose. Heavy rains reportedly forced Dominican  authorities to release water from a dam in the river, which was already swollen with flood water. After reaching winds of 60mph (75km/h) at its peak, Olga weakened as it moved westwards, according to forecasters.
