Tax reform would spare staples
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday pledged not to raise taxes on basic household items and staples, as part of the fiscal reform to be disclosed next Thursday at noon.
Medina made the announcement to union leaders who visited the National Palace Tuesday morning, to state their concern over possible across the board increases.
Rafael (Pepe) Abreu, head of the labor union federation (CNUS) provided the information after meeting with the President in his National Palace office.
He said Medina also promised to maintain the Free Zone sector incentives.
Medina will reportedly present the proposed tax reform next Thursday after a meeting of the Economic and Social Council, prior to submitting it to Congress for debate.
