Spanish group will build five new “Bahia Principe” hotels in the Dominican Republic
The Spanish “Grupo Piñero” announced that in the next five years it plans to build seven new hotels in the Caribbean, for a total investment of US$250 million.
Five of these hotels will be built in the Dominican Republic, under the “Bahia Principe” brand, and the others in Jamaica and Mexico.
Group President Pablo Piñero said that the new facilities will be built under the brand name “Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts.”
The investment in the Dominican Republic will concentrate in the Punta Cana region, in the country’s easternmost region.
Three hotels are scheduled to be built there, while another two will be constructed in the “Playa Nueva Romana,” a tourism-facility situated outside La Romana, situated two hours east of the capital city of Santo Domingo.
The company also announced that it is refurbishing its three hotels in the northeast province of Samaná.
With this announcement the Spanish-based company focuses its expansion attention on the Dominican Republic.
Piñero explained that the decision to concentrate the company’s expansion on the Dominican Republic was motivated by the strong performance experimented by their facilities in the country, and the innovative actions undertaken by the Dominican authorities to strengthen the country as an important tourism destination.
Also, the warm reception expressed by Dominicans to the efforts carried out by the group, its excellent relationship with local authorities, the successful measures introduced to reduce crime rates and the rapid response regarding important health care issues.
Piñero also stressed the measures adopted to care for the country’s local environment and the great abundance of local food products, which allows the hotels to prepare innovative menus using these local products.
The Piñero Group is currently the largest hotel company operating in the Dominican Republic. The company currently has 12 “Bahia Principe” facilities throughout the country, offering some four thousand rooms. Three of these hotels belong to what is known as the “Don Pablo Collection,” facilities that cater to the more affluent tourist.
The company’s facilities are situated in Rio San Juan, Samaná, Las Terrenas (on the country’s north coast) and Punta Cana and La Romana, on the easternmost region.
The company’s latest project in the Dominican Republic is the Playa Nueva Romana Private Residences & Golf resort.
Situated outside the city of La Romana, the facility opened in 2007, featuring residential housing, golf courses and hotels.
