Retired sugar cane workers awarded pensions
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina has awarded pensions to 1,028 former sugar cane cutters from the State Sugar Council (CEA), for a monthly sum of RD$5,117.50 each. The beneficiaries described the development as an “act of justice” by the government that has been promising these pensions for almost two months.
Medina’s decision, contained in decree no. 666-12, was announced by Presidential Communications Director, Roberto Rodríguez Marchena.
Presidency minister Gustavo Montalvo added that president Medina recognized the work of these 1,028 sugar cane workers who have made a series of claims over the years, but as soon as he took power Medina heard them and ordered the processes and legal formalities to be carried out in order to grant these pensions.
