Participation in DATE 2012 jumps over 45%
More than 150 vendors have confirmed their participation at the XIII edition of the “Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange” (DATE) 2012, to be held from April 17-19, at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach and Resort & Casino. Last year, some 108 companies participated.
The Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), the organizer of the annual event, said that 50% of the vendors participating are from the United States.
DATE attracts brokers and media outlets from the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Just as it did last year, the event will once again take place in the Punta Cana tourism region of the Dominican Republic.
The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, has become the country’s most important tourism event.
The second night enjoy at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana.
The first DATE took place in 1998 when the number of US and Canadian tourists accounted for 24% of all visitors to the Dominican Republic. Today, 53% of all international visitors traveling to the Dominican Republic are from these two countries.
Participants in DATE include international tour operators, travel agencies and tourism sector representatives. It is the place where they gather to define business strategies with hotel chains and local tour operators.
