North Coast offers visitors idyllic off-the-beaten-track destinations
The town of Cabrera, on the country’s north coast, is currently one of the most attractive eco-tourism destinations in the Dominican Republic. The region is home to “Playa Grande,” one of the country’s most beautiful beaches. Very close to this pristine beach are natural hideouts that are certainly worth a visit. Visitors should visit the Port of the Fishermen (Puerto de los Pescadores); the Dudu Springs (Manantial del Dudú) and Old French Cape (Cabo Francés Viejo).
Some of the most important attractions are the Fishermen’s Port (Puerto de los Pescadores); the Dudu Pond (Manantial del Dudú) and Old French Cape (Cabo Francés Viejo). Some of these off-the-beaten-track destinations are so well hidden from the public eye that sometimes visitors may pass by them and not even notice.
The following sites are a must-stop for anyone interested in enjoying nature at its very best.
The Port is situated in the north coast town of Cabrera. From this port dozens of boats leave early in the morning to fish in the surrounding waters. A tranquil stream flows from the port into a nearby beach. A large weight scale is visible in a nearby tree.
This is where the day’s catch is weighed by the fishermen. It is also a meeting ground where the fishermen come together for lively discussions on the most varied subjects.
Old French Cape
The Cape is located in the community of Breton, also on the north coast. It is a protected area that was awarded the category of Natural Monument. In and around the area there are wind-swept cliffs that offer the visitor truly impressive scenery of the surrounding coastline.
There is also a nearby ecological trail that begins in the very center of the village of Breton and ends in the nearby ruins of the old lighthouse. The nearby beach is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the perfect swim.

These springs are a must-see for the adventurous traveler. The main pond is a classic sinkhole surrounded with lush tropical vegetation. Visitors can take a cool and refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of the pond. The springs are also a popular attraction for national and international divers. A large underwater tunnel brings together the various springs in the area.
