More tourists and better hotel occupancy in Puerto Plata

The president of the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster, Maximo Iglesias, recently announced that the north coast city has experienced a 16.3% rise in hotel occupancy during the first quarter of this year. Iglesias made the announcement during the POP 2012 tourism event.

He pointed out that the improvement in hotel occupancy is largely due “to the improvements that have been made in the beaches in “’Playa Dorada,’ ‘Costa Dorada,’ Maimon, Cofresi, Sosua and Cabarete.”

From January to March 2012 tourist arrivals jumped by 5.9%, in comparison with the numbers presented during the same time period in 2011. This year, 140,950 visitors traveled to the region, seven thousand more than the numbers reported in 2011.

“Puerto Plata is going through an important transformation phase, and this is evidenced in the emergence of new construction projects,” said Iglesias.

“Puerto Plata offers visitors a host of endless treasures.  The efforts being made by all are beginning to pay off.

The work being carried out by the region’s hotel association, the Tourism Cluster, and the efforts of other tourism-related organizations are beginning to present solid results,” said Iglesias.
