Man and Woman of the Year: Juan Linares, Olga González
Santo Domingo. The prelate Juan Linares, founder of the charitable organization Boys and Girls with Don Bosco, and Olga González, president of the Cibao Patronage Against Cancer were bestowed the “Man and Woman of the Year 2011″ award, sponsored by newspaper Diario Libre.
The prizes will be given in a gala in the hotel Embajador Thursday night.
Linares, born in Salamanca, Spain, arrived in the country in the mid 1970s to teach in the Don Bosco School where he’s been helping thousands of abandoned children with an uncertain future.
González began her voluntary work in the Patronage 44 years ago, and was key in expanding it from only four beds in Santiago’s Cabral and Báez Hospital, to its own 150 bed hospital today, providing chemotherapy, x-rays and surgeries to low income patients in the region.
