K’s Coffee Shop – a place with a touch of home in Cabarete
You can find K’s Coffee Shop on a walk through downtown Cabarete. It’s hard to miss being right in the middle of town. It’s a smaller shop, but makes the most of it’s space offering a wide selection of freshly baked from-scratch baked goodies. The cafe also offers fresh fruit smoothies (delicious), iced cappuccino better than Tim Horton’s, and icy cold and refreshing Slushies (with or without a touch of the famous Dominican rum).
How to describe the baked goods – well, in a word fabulous! Kathy offers a great selection including banana bread, muffins, cupcakes, brownies, chocolate cake (with fudge icing!) and her to-die-for coconut cream layer cake. And don’t miss Sundays! Every Sunday Kathy bakes up a batch of cinnamon raisin buns with caramel glaze. Get them while they’re still warm for a treat unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else on the island. And for a special occasion (or no occasion at all) Kathy also does custom order cakes.
Kathy also has a great selection of cold drinks and if you’re feeling a little homesick you can pop online at one of three computers while you nibble on something yummy.
K’s Coffee Shop also has seating and is a bit of a “Timmie’s of the Carribean” as Kathy herself is Canadian and often has one or two Canadians or Americans hanging out for coffee and a chat. Kathy is quite knowledgeable about the area and creates a very friendly welcoming atmosphere in her little shop.
