Government says studies for north-south railroad ready
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government has conducted the technical and economic feasibility studies as the base for the construction of a freight and passenger railroad network, to link Santo Domingo in the southern region with the Cibao in the north.
Transport Reform Office (Opret) director Diandino Peña made the announcement Tuesday night and said the studies by a French company determined that the rate of return is sure to attract the multilateral bank’s interest in the project.
The official, speaking in the Government’s program “Rendering of Accounts to the Dominican People” which began Monday, said the company, which Peña didn’t name, will meet with local banks in the next few days to present the results of the project.
Peña added the local banks requested the meeting with the French company, which he affirms has more than 100 years experience in that type of infrastructure.
