Festival will showcase the best products and culture of Puerto Plata
The Provincial Festival of Puerto Plata will have the theme “Celebrating the Diversity of Our Province”, showcasing the best of their products and culture. It will be held on November 16 through 18.
The festivities will take place on the central park or Plaza Independencia in San Felipe de Puerto Plata, beginning at 10 am. This will be the center for cultural activities, music sharing, dance, culinary exhibitions and the sale of agricultural products and handicrafts.
There will also be a provincial bachata contest with representatives from each municipality selected in different warm-ups, and a percussion show dubbed “The Power of the Puerto Plata Tambora.”
The exposure of new products created in the different municipalities will highlight the opportunities offered to communities by the tourism development in the region.
The event will also showcase the brands created by the ten Municipal Units of Community Heritage (UMPC) to represent the municipalities of Altamira, Imbert, Guananico, El Mamey (Sabinillas); Villa Isabela, Luperon, Montellano, Sosua and Puerto Plata. The districts of Yásica Arriba, Pedro Garcia, Maimon, Cerro de Navas and Estero Hondo will be also participating.
The hallmarks of the communities have been created as part of the Sustainable Tourism Project of Puerto Plata (TURISOPP), with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which are represented by more than 200 institutions, both public and by the private sector of the province. It also involves the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and the Institute of Technical and Vocational Training (INFOTEP).
This festival, held for the first time, is organized by TURISOPP, with the support of the provincial government, Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, Provincial Department of Culture, Diocese of Puerto Plata, Mayor of San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Provincial Environment Directorate, the CURA-UASD, UTESA and O & M Universities, the Alumni Association of the JICA, and INFOTEP MITUR.
