DR to Participate for the First Time in European Cruise Ship Fair

The Dominican Republic will participate for the first time in the Seatrade Med Cruise Fair, to be held from November 27-29 in Marseille, France.

For the first time the country will be an active participant in the convention, which brings together the major cruise ship lines in the world. Participants will also include multiple service providers, travel agents, and tour operators.

During the 2010-2011 tourism season the Dominican Republic hosted 250 cruise ships, bringing in some 430,000 passengers.

Heading the Dominican delegation will be Orfila Salazar, the Ministry of Tourism’s cruise ship section director. She said the Ministry’s main goal at the fair will be to continue attracting French cruise ship passengers. The delegation is scheduled to meet with representatives from various cruise ship companies.

Seatrade Med is the largest bi-annual cruise ship and super-yachts fair in the Mediterranean. The event is the perfect venue for a wide range of industry providers. During the fair participants will be able to visit dozens of stands set up by world-class restaurants and hotels, providing all the necessary information to tourists and interested parties. The organizers also organize conferences, featuring international experts on the sector, in order to discuss the cruise ship industry, its prospects, opportunities, and challenges.
