Dominican nanny kills two children in New York
New York.– Yoselyn Ortega, a Dominican nanny living in New York, stabbed two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, at a building called La Rochelle on West 75th Street, the NY police said.
Police believe Ortega, 50, killed Lucia and Leo Krim before attempting to kill herself in the family’s upper west side apartment on Thursday. The nanny is in critical condition from what’s now being described as a self-inflicted stab wound.
The mother Marina Krim and Nessie, the other child who were not home at the time, were also taken to hospital for treatment. A neighbour told the press the woman had left the building inconsolable and hysterical. Her husband, Kevin Krim, had been on a business trip and was met by police at the airport when he returned to New York.
Ortega, who was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, became a U.S. citizen over ten years ago and has lived with her son, 16, her sister and a niece in a Riverside Drive apartment building in Manhattan, where neighbors noted her devotion to the Catholic faith.
Ortega had been working with the Krims for three years, they treated her like family and even bought her a plane ticket to the Dominican Republic every time they were on vacation and her services were not necessary.
