Dominican beaches among the 20 best in the world
The beaches of the Dominican Republic currently occupy the 17th place in the list of the 20 best beaches in the world.
Voting was carried out by readers of the popular travel website Tripadvisor.com. Dominican beaches compete with beaches situated in the Mexican Caribbean (Cancun and Acapulco), Asia (Bora Bora), and Europe (Ibiza and Tenerife).
According to the survey, Dominican beaches are known for “by long stretches of white, sparkling sand, and for its beautiful blue water.” They are ideal destinations for “sun worshipers” and divers.
According to the Tripadvisor website, “Dominican beaches, known for their… white, sparkling sand and beautiful clear-blue waters… and among the best in the world. From Puerto Plata to Punta Cana to Barahona, these beaches cater to… sun worshipers, lovers of water sports and divers.”
The website also recommends the Dominican Republic as a family destination, with interesting cultural attractions.
“[The Dominican Republic is home to] the New World’s first Cathedral, first university and the first hospital in the Americas, all built in Santo Domingo, the capital city… Santo Domingo honors the island’s rich history, featuring the first home of Christopher Columbus in the New World, as well the city’s Cultural Plaza.”
The website features some 32 million visitors. Tripadvisor put together the list of the 60 best beach holidays through their online votes and commentaries.
